I think it was Pablo Picasso who said, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." At what point along the journey of life do we lose the ability to experience and express ourselves based on how it makes us feel? As adults we are so quick to identify, categorize, label and file our experiences away, that we spend far too little time being in the moment.

 

One thing I know; I "need" to create. Creativity and expression give me purpose. Photography helps me slow down and feel my surroundings. It strengthens my sense of connection to all that exists around me. It reminds me that I am not separate from, or superior to, but merely a small interconnected part of the boundless energy that is all things.

 

Art is an invitation to experience. It provides me the opportunity to express who I am as a human being, what I believe in, what I hope for and what I love. It insists that I expose my whimsy, my philosophy and my frivolities. It begs me to examine, interpret and illustrate. And it rewards me, as an intuitive artist, by helping me to trust my feelings. Where to go, when, what to photograph, what to process and how. None of it, for me, is objective driven. I simply follow my intuition and let it flow. It is, what it is.
